Self-care is one aspect of our lives that most of us are guilty of not paying good and quality attention to. In fact, a good number of us have been neglecting self-care for so several reasons. We live in a fast-paced world and so many of us are so busy with life, work, family, and other issues that little or no attention is paid to self-care. But without self-care, we cannot really be healthy and function at our optimal best. This is a reminder to always take care of yourself. Some of us think that self-care is somehow synonymous with being selfish. But this could not be further from the truth. Even the Bible enjoins us to “love your neighbor as yourself”. This simply means that you cannot give what you do not have. So it is obvious that self-care is critical in living a wholesome life and being able to help others. There is no gainsaying that we live in a very stressful world and faced with so many stressors that challenge us every day. There is an explosion of anxiety and depression in our society. Part of this is because self-care is lacking. And for avoidance of doubt about the meaning of self-care; simply put, self-care is anything you do, be it nutritionally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, medically, to be able to cope with the various stressors we face every day.

Make out time every day and do personal reflection. Ask yourself simple questions like ‘how am I doing today?’ ‘Am I ok?’ Find out if you need to fix something, be it eating better, sleeping more, amending some relationships, going to bed early so you can wake up early and take care of your business. This is not a one-answer-fits-all solution. The list is not exhaustive. Come up with questions for yourself to find out how you are doing in order to be able to fix things that need fixing in your life. After you have determined where your life needs improving, then determine what steps will help you achieve your goal, reduce stress in your life, and improve your overall health. You can meditate, do yoga, pray, eat better, have quality rest or sleep. The choice is yours. Take care of yourself now so you can reduce your stress level and live a more healthy and holistic life.

Self care is important or you have quick burnout! Live long enough and you will notice. But there are also many ways to combat the tired days by catching up on rest and relaxation.
